Project: Improvement of the prevention and control of STIs in St. Petersburg

TFBS.2002.B
12/06/2002 - 30/12/2004 (30.5 months)

Project goals

Background: STI diagnosis and management in St Petersburg are suboptimal, morbidity rates due to STI high. In 1999-2001, the project "STIs in Leningradskaya Oblastj: problem estimation, enhancement of diagnostic quality and management" was run. As the result, we established STD management group, supported clinical and laboratory teaching center, implemented patient management standards and performed small prevalence studies. We are convinced that the experience we gained and network we established gives us all prerequisites to elaborate it on the city of St Petersburg as well.
Objectives: To reduce the transmission of STIs in St Petersburg with special emphasis on young people and high risk population
Immediate objective: To support centers for STI diagnosis and prevention, to develop working methods through collaboration, networking, provision of material and transfer of knowledge
Indicators: numbers of centers and working groups established, laboratories and clinics supported, course attendance, materials printed, target group/people tested - quarterly reports by the working activity coordinators and half- and yearly reports by the project coordinator.
Relationship with the health plan for the control of HIV/AIDS/STI: project plans are accepted by the Health Committee
