Project: We and Tomorrow. Cooperation between the Novgorod and Orebro regions

Project goals

A cooperation project between the Dept. of Public Health and Social Medicine, Цrebro County Council and The Folk High School of Veliky Novgorod. Indicators:
The reasons for the project are the rapidly increasing numbers of HIV-infected young persons, increasing numbers of other sexually transmitted diseases and high rates of unwanted pregnancies. Negative attitudes and lack of support to HIV-infected persons. Limited sex education in schools. Limited knowledge among health care workers as well as people in general.
General objectives:
Invent the epidemiological situation. Develope a long term prevention programme for sexual health together with the russian authorities. Create an education model for key persons and special groups. Build network and encourage partnership between different sectors in society. Use the Folk High School as a centre for education and information. Support infected persons and their families. Develope youth services STI care and family planning, using model and experiences from "Projekt 13" in St. Petersburg. Increase the awareness among the population in the area of the ongoing epidemic and its consequenses for individuals and society.
