Project goals
The first cases of HIV were registered in Kandalakshi region in year 2000. Since this period totally 225 cases are diagnosed in the city. The morbidity rate is the highest in the North-West district of Russian Federation. The main group of HIV+ persons are IDU's - 88%. Almost 90% of infected persosn are are in the age of 15-25. It becomes evident that more and more case are registered among the women, and if in the beginning of Epidemic the ratio of infected man to women was 4:1, now it is 2:1. MOst of them are also drug usres and commersial sex workers. The purpose of the project is to reduce HIV spread among IDU's and commercial sex workers in Kandalakshi city. |
