Project: The Little Star

Project goals

Improved overall welfare and prospects of Chechen children and adolescents in Ingushetia and Chechnya. Improved psychosocial well-being of children and adolescents in IDP camps in Ingushetia, villages in Chechnya and in Grozny.
The project began in 1996 and provides psychosocial support and assistance for children traumatized by war in Chechnya. Sixty counselors in Ingushetia and Chechnya work in 30 locations with groups of children and youth in co-operation with schools and carry out rehabilitation through music, art, drama, games and individual consultations.
The Little Star programme has consultants who raise awareness about the dangers of landmines, alcoholism and drug addiction among youth in Ingushetia and in Chechnya. Some of activities, including provide psychosocial workshops for children in Ingushetia and Chechnya; provision of individual psychosocial support for children with specific needs; conduct awareness training on alcoholism and drug addiction among children and young people; conduct mine awareness workshops with children attending LS sessions; work with parents, teachers and school psychologists on recognising and supporting traumatised children; and provide training seminars for LS staff.
