Objectives:  1) To increase the coverage of prevention of mother-to-child HIV transmission services to 90% of HIV-positive pregnant women delivering (n~700) in St. Petersburg (5.5 million inhabitants). 2) To implement rapid testing and treatment of women presenting in labor with un 3) To implement enhanced monitoring of perinatal HIV transmission indicators, which will include prenatal care, testing, seroprevalence, maternal and infant therapies, infant feeding practices, and abandonment. 4) To provide training of health care professionals, including obstetricians, neonatologists, nurses and laboratory scientists in HIV PMTCT, including opt-out VCT, rapid testing of women presenting in labor with undocumented HIV status, nevirapine treatment, as well as in use of family planning to prevent future unintended pregnancy and HIV transmission.

Objectives:  : The project intends to select NGOs from six different Russian regions that have demonstrated capacity, skills and engagement to carry out HIV prevention training and outreach activities among women in prostitution. Outreach activities include medical and social health care, safe sex behaviour training and distribution of information packages and condoms. The NGOs are expected to actively seek cooperation with local authorities. Other activities include a study about the various paradoxical legislation regarding prostitution in Russia and advocacy roundtables and seminars with federal, regional and local governments.

Objectives:  A particulary exposed group in Russian society is young people. HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections (STI) and also abortions are prevalent to a large extent. To reach young people via youth friendly services (youth clinics) and sex education at schools are therfore important. The overall objectives are to prevent sexually transmitted infections including HIV/AIDS and unwanted pregnancies among young people in St Petersburg. Partial objectives are: develop four youth clinics and use the knowledge and experience of the already established youth clinics to supervise staff; create an academic postgraduate course for youth clinic staff, establish a reliable distribution of contraceptives and condoms so young people have access to cheap and safe preservatives, create a basic course for medical and school staff about sexual health, create an academic method course for school staff, participate in an exchange of ideas about safe sex in existing programme at summer camps, influence massmedia about the importance of sexual education, co-operate with NGOs about the importance of sex education for young people.
